My name is Wendy and I am the Family Support Worker who deals with enquiries about children (anyone up to the age of 18).
I joined the Society in April 2007. Before this I worked as a teacher and I have 30 years experience in special education. This includes teaching in schools for children with behavioural and learning difficulties and more recently in a school for children with a diagnosis of autism. This included time as an Outreach Teacher, giving advice and support to teachers in mainstream schools to help them support and work with pupils with an ASD diagnosis in a mainstream setting.
Support and Information for Children
At the society I take calls from families who have children affected by fragile X. By calling me directly on 01371 875100 you can get information and support more tailored to your child’s individual need. I can also talk to and give information on fragile X to other professionals working with your child if that would be helpful.
Support and Information for Professionals
I also take enquiries from a range of professionals including teachers, SENCOs, teaching assistants, Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, GPs – in fact absolutely anyone working with a child affected by fragile X. Again contacting me directly will enable me to give the information and support most suited to the needs of the young person you are working with.
Please contact me
Whether you are a family member, carer or professional we have lots of information on a range of issues including education; speech, language and communication; behaviour; and sensory issues. We can also offer support in other areas, for example, guidelines for filling in the DLA applications for children under 16.
I look forward to hearing from you, either via the telephone on 01371 875100, or via email at wendy@fragilex.org.uk, or Contact Us. Finally, I should like to stress that all requests for support and information are treated with strict confidentiality.
