"What do you think about hearing aids"

Nathasha Gardi is presently working on her master's dissertation, which is a project titled "What do you think about hearing aids?"

Nathasha's research, under the supervision of Dr. Siobhan Brennan at the University of Manchester, concentrates on adults with learning disabilities and hearing impairment. Individuals with learning disabilities have a higher likelihood of experiencing hearing loss, with studies indicating they are up to 40% more likely to encounter this issue compared to the general population.

Unfortunately, many individuals remain undiagnosed or do not receive the necessary assistance, impacting their communication, social interactions, and mental well-being. This study seeks to explore the perspectives of people with learning disabilities regarding hearing aids. Despite advancements in hearing aid technology, this group frequently encounters distinct challenges, such as sensory sensitivities or struggles with adapting to new technology.

Nathasha, hopes this research will enhance understanding, leading to improved support and services for individuals with learning disabilities who experience hearing loss.

The Fragile X Society is helping to support and spread the word about this study to potential participants. By doing so, we are hoping we can help improve hearing healthcare for people with learning disabilities and contribute to future changes in policies and services.
